New York: Charles Scribner's Sons, 1895. First edition. Hardcover. Very Good+. 8vo. [10], 11-339, [1], 1-16, [2] pp. Blue cloth with white, black, blue and gilt decorations and white and black lettering on the front board, gilt lettering and gilt and white decorations on the spine; all edges decoratively stained black. Coated brown endpapers and pastedowns. With eight illustrations, including a frontispiece, by W.H. Overend and three maps. A fictional version of Napoleon's failed Russian campaign. The front hinge gently split but the binding is strong, a contemporary name on the free front endpaper, an odor of tobacco to the pageblock.
