About This Item
London: William Heinemann, 1914. Octavo. First edition. Original black blind-stamped cloth with gilt crest and white lettering stamped to the front board and gilt lettering and decorations stamped to the spine. Edges roughly trimmed. Heavily illustrated with plates from photos, including the frontispiece, and three folding maps. Previous owner's gift inscriptions to the ffep. Some of the plates are in a different order than designated in the "List of Illustrations"; one of the plates has come loose, but there is another bound in the place where it should have been. All maps present and without any tearing or foxing. Toning the ffep. Foxing to the textblock edges. A slight bit of rubbing to the head and tail of the spine. A good copy. Arctic Bibliography 41535. A narrative of Nansen's trip in 1913 from Norway through the Barents and Kara Seas, up the Yenisey River to Yeniseysk, then eastward overland to Vladivostok, returning overland to Europe. 1914
