About This Item

New York: Mitchell Kennerley. Very Good in Good dust jacket. 1913. First Edition. Hardcover. Maroon cloth boards; original buff dust jacket with title, reviews and publisher's advertisements in black lettering, protected with mylar cover. Witter Bynner's copy with bookplate and handwriting on front pastedown; his bookplate reads "Hal Witter Bynner - His Book," and "Witter Bynner's Book" is written in his handwriting underneath bookplate. Boards have light wear to edges; dust jacket has moderate soiling and toning and has been repaired along spine. Written early in Bynner's life as poet, this play "focuses, in dramatic form, the abominable realities to which 'civilized' people have so long shut their eyes, publically and pharisaically; but to which, in tens of thousands of cases, they have given vicious personal and private encouragement." ; 12mo 7" - 7½" tall; 48 pp .
