About This Item
New York: Caravelle Books, Inc, 1967. First printing. Very good plus.. First edition of Brown's ambitious hard-boiled hippie-exploitation pulp, starring Joe Christmas (Black novelist and Vietnam veteran with a name borrowed from Faulkner's LIGHT IN AUGUST), a P.I. hired to find a missing white runaway lost in the drug dens of San Francisco. The text of TIGER is followed by what appears to be a separate short story, "The Traitor, by Ken Brown," a brief portrait of a dissatisfied book critic who seeks respite from the trials of thinking up original insults for Saul Bellow through violent sexual fantasies and listening to Wagner on the phonograph. Stylish and scarce. 6.75'' x 4.25''. Original pictorial wrappers. 190 pages. A Flagship Book. Light corner creasing and edgewear. Two small small closed tears to covers, smaller closed tear to fore-edge affecting first few chapters (margins only).
