About This Item

Boston: John W. Luce, 1913. First American Edition. Hardcover. Very good-. Square small quarto, 179pp., illustrated by Sime. A nearly very good copy in the publisher's brown paper-covered boards with green spine and inset applied illustration to front board. Internally clean and bright. This copy SIGNED by Dunsany most curiously on the front board of the book in his unmistakable style. Very bottom of the "D" perished due to rubbing at the bottoms of the boards, else a clean signature. Front board nicked at the fore-edge. The scarce first American edition of this volume, published in the same format and from the same sheets as the UK first; considerably scarcer signed.

Synopsis

Time and the Gods is the second book by Irish fantasy writer Lord Dunsany, considered a major influence on the work of J. R. R. Tolkien, H. P. Lovecraft, Ursula K. Le Guin and others. The book was first published in hardcover by William Heinemann in September, 1906, and has been reprinted a number of times since. It was issued by the Modern Library in an unauthorised combined edition with The Book of Wonder under the latter's title in 1918.

About Cleveland Book Company

We are proud members of the ABAA.

As a small, independent bookseller in Cleveland, Ohio, I deal in general used, rare, and antiquarian books, autographs, manuscripts, pamphlets, and personal and family papers in all subjects. My family has been in the antiquarian book business since 1971. Are you moving, downsizing, or doing some spring cleaning? Did you inherit or otherwise come into some old books? Or, maybe you've collected modern novels from the last thirty or fifty years. No matter what kinds of books you have, we'd love to take a look at them! We travel throughout Ohio, western Pennsylvania and New York, southern Michigan, and eastern Indiana, and will travel farther in some cases to look at whole libraries or even just a few particularly interesting books. Give us a call at (216) 352-3940 and we can talk more about the kinds of books you have.
