Red boards stamped in black and silver. Unclipped dust jacket rubbed along edges with some general scuffing and spine faded. Boards mildly chewed and corners bumped. Binding is sound. Dust soiling to top edges and opens easily between pages 148 and 149 where letters were laid in.

Two autographed letters signed and two typed letters signed with original envelopes laid in, from 1989 to 1998. The first brief letter is addressed to Kay Schloff at the office of Mayor Coleman Young and Bond briefly notes, "I've followed Detroit's politics via newspaper; it is wild." The 1992 typed letter signed is more revealing as Bond offers his thoughts on Schloff's poetry and reveals, "I used to write poetry myself, and then - dried up," and offers advice on pursuing publication and which poem he liked best.

The remaining two letters are brief and only offer apologies for not visiting. Kay Schloff worked in Detroit politics and was at one time Senior Counsel for the city.

Julian Bond was a leader of the Civil Rights Movement, helping establish the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee and co-founding the Southern Poverty Law Center, and also served in the Georgia State House and Senate. Signed material from Bond scare in retail.
