London: The Nonesuch Press,, 1927. First edition, first impression, of the second Mr. Tootleoo book. Bernard Darwin (18761961) was the grandson of the naturalist Charles Darwin. He and his wife collaborated on their children's books, with Bernard providing the text, and Elinor the illustrations. Oblong quarto. Original brown boards lettered and decorated in blue. With dust jacket. With 20 full-page coloured illustrations by Elinor Darwin. A very good copy in the scarce dust jacket, heavily torn and chipped, a little sunned around extremities.
