About This Item
NY: Arbor House, 1987. First edition. Hardcover. An association copy, with a terrific inscription on the title page dated in the year of publication: "'I'd wear Duck Head bib overalls without a shirt if I could write like Jim Harrison.' (from a talk to be delivered in Sept. in N.Y.) Elmore Leonard, 8/87." The inscription references Harrison's famous author photo in which he's leaning up against a horse bare chested in overalls. This novel is about a miraculous healer set in Detroit. A very good book with a slight cock to spine. In near fine jacket with a light rubbing/creasing to top edge. A nice association between Michigan novelists of renown, and a one of a kind inscription. One of our best crime novelists, Leonard ultimately won a Medal for Distinguished Contribution to American Letters from the National Book Foundation in 2012.

About Rural Hours
Rural Hours (formerly Wood + River = Books, est. 2019) specializes in ecology, natural history, nature writing, the environment, environmental literature, and contemporary essay, with a special passion for association copies and notable inscriptions. We draw our name from the popular-but-then-forgotten book by Susan Fenimore Cooper (published in 1850), generally considered the first work of environmental creative nonfiction by a woman in the U.S. We are interested in challenging and expanding the canon of environmental literature and finding books that tell remarkable stories and illuminate the tradition of writing about place and natural history.
