Maroon (darkened) cloth, embossed panels, ruled in blind, gilt title to backstrip. Rubbing to extremities. Leather rebacking with original spine laid down. Minor spotting and toning.
Revere's "Lieut. Revere of the U.S. Navy made a well-deserved reputation by this book, and the sketches with which it is illustrated...opportunities for first hand observation were excellent, and no other book of the period is more accurate in respect to local nomenclature, and topography. The valuable map is copied (with a few changes) from Beechey's "Voyages"." (Larned 2066). MAP: "Harbour of San Francisco California. Sketched from Beechey's survey. By Joseph W. Revere, U.S.N.
