Dublin: An Association of Members of the Society of Friends, 1851. Hardcover. Good. Volume II only (including Tracts No. 25 through 44). Quarter leather with marbled paper sides. Boards are heavily rubbed/scuffed. Wear along edges; corners pushed. Foxing. 4, [iii]-viii; with 422 pages (each tract is individually numerated). 7 x 4.5 inches. Published in 1851 by the Dublin Tract Association of Members of the Society of Friends (which had been formed in 1814). The introduction is dated 1836. Each of the twenty tracts is presented with an original title page showing dates ranging between 1831 and 1841. Some of the authors represented are: Thomas Chalkey, William Allen, Robert Barclay, Henry Tuke, Josiah Martin, Joseph Phipps, William Penn, Sir Matthew Hale, William Dell, Archbishop Francois Fenelon, Joseph Gurney Bevan, David Hall, Thomas Lurting, and Job Scott. Subjects include piety, reason and revelation, baptism, the nature of true worship, the unlawfulness of war, the prohibition of swearing, why tithes are not paid, advice to children, grace, intemperance and sobriety, and personal memoirs.
