London: Longmans, Green, & Co 1885. xiv,(1),532 pp. Tall octavo. (26.8 X 20 cm.). Bound in half vellum and cloth covered boards. Gilt title on spine. Marbled endpapers. Top edge gilt. Other edges untrimmed. Binding slightly soiled. Title page and all of the illustrations are mounted images/plates not printed on paper as is common, highly unusual and costly to produce but far superior in appearance. Illustrations all by G. Pearson and J. Cooper after R.T. Pritchett. Single page chart. VG with spine lightly soiled, contents near fine with some light foxing to a few pages. Limited first edition. Copy 115/250.
