About This Item

viii+[9]-302 pages with newspaper clipping laid in. Small octavo (7 1/2" x 5 1/4") bound in original publisher's black cloth titled in red and black to spine. Contemporary newspaper clippings laid in. First British edition.

The Trail of Fu Manchu was originally serialized in Collier's from April 28 to July 14, 1934. It was published in book form later that year by Cassell in the UK and Doubleday in the US. The book marked the first time Rohmer employed third person narrative in the series and dispensed with the first person narrative voice modeled on Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes stories.

Fu-Manchu is trapped, cornered in London and cut-off from his resources, including the elixir vitae that grants him eternal life. But under the Thames, the devil doctor practices the dark art of sorcery, and it will be up to Nayland Smith and Scotland Yard to stop him. But Fu-Manchu may possess the key to victory, when he kidnaps Dr. Petrie's wife, Fleurette!
