Routledge's Standard Library Edition. 413 Pages plus 16 pages of advertisement. Carleton (1794-1869), born of Irish-speaking peasant parents, renounced Catholicism for Protestantism and espoused a Unionist point of view. He is a key figure in Anglo-Irish literature who is seen as exemplifying "the transition from an oral culture to a print-based literary one" (The Oxford Companion to Irish Literature,1996).
