Printed paper title label on the spine is chipped and stained. Damp stains to the cloth on the spine and front cover. Some scuff marks to the back cover. Cloth chipped head and base of the spine. Corners bumped. Light foxing to the end sheets. Interior text and illustrations in very good condition. Inscribed by the editor Edward E. Hale - "William H. Bryant Esq - With the regards of E. E. Hale Boston Oct. 19. 1860." Contents include list of officers of the AAS, facsimiles of original documents concerning Sir Walter Raleigh's first American Colony; "A Discourse of Virginia" by Edward Maria Wingfield; New England Rarities Discovered; Narrative of a Voyage to Spitzbergen in the Year 1613, at the Charge of the Fellowship of English Merchants for the Discovery of New Trades, commonly called the Muscovy Company; with a description of the Country, and the Operations of the Whale-Fishery, now printed from the original manuscript, and more.
