Good margins, hand coloured, good impression on heavy paper. Coast line of Flanders at Calles [Calais] to Der Scheling [Terschelling]of the West Frisian Islands and then Eastern England Margate in Kent to Burnham Flats in Norfolk. Much detail is given of the Thames estuary and Rotterdam soundings. Depth soundings and rhumb lines indicated. A compass rose is set at the centre of the Chart. Title cartouche "To the Honourable Sir john Ashby Kt. Admiral of the Blew/ This is most humbly dedicated and presented by Capt G Collins". Some age soiling to edges, one small tear, without loss and repaired to centre fold area. A scarce, attractive sea chart in good, bright condition suitable for display.

Macrodontia, native to the South American rain forest, is one of the world’s largest beetles, reaching an adult size of over 8 1/4". An original double plate illustration plate from C.F.A. Kolb’s Naturgeschichte des Tierreichs, published at Stuttgart in 1868. An engraved identification key in the bottom margin lists theLatin binomial and German common name for each beetle pictured. Hinged and matted entirely acid free, ready for framing. Full sheet 13 1/4" x 16", matte window 12 3/4" x 14 1/4", outside matte dimensions 18" x 19 1/2". Fine condition, clean, bright, colors vivid. Light edgewear, chip to lower spine, minimal ex-library evidence, text is age-toned and occasionally foxed, pencil sketch and notations on endpapers, bindingis tight. The uncommon First American Edition published in Boston. Search for a Northwest Passage under Captain William Parry.

London: Printed at the Logographic Press, by J Walter and sold by J Robson and T Longman, 1786 A fair to good copy in contemporary tree calf binding. Classed as 'fair' largely because the binding is splitting at the spine joints, particularly the front joint and there is some damage to the top of the spine. The spine has gilt compartments and title label. It is slightly darkened. Boards are clean with a ? water mark on the back board. There is scuffing and wear to edges and corners with leather loss. Contents: initial blank; half title; title; dedication 4pp; subscriber list pp 11-22; introduction 3 pp; text pp 27-68 with 3 plates, 1 folding; appendices x 3 pp 1 - 197; Finis; a 'ps' of additions pp 198-199; directions to binder 1p. There are some old burn marks and the occasional spot. The text is generally toned, but clean. The plates are browned with some offsetting to text.
