About This Item
Philadelphia: J. B. Lippincott Company, 1889. Hardcover. Very Good/No Jacket. M. M. Taylor. The Traveller; or, a Prospect of Society (originally published in 1764) is a philosophical poem by Oliver Goldsmith. In heroic verse of an Augustan style it discusses the causes of happiness and unhappiness in nations. It was the work which first made Goldsmith's name, and is still considered a classic of mid-18th-century poetry (taken from wikipedia). This edition, published over a century after the original, contains etchings by M. M. Taylor who was a prominent artist in Philadelphia during the late 19th century. Tree calf leather binding with gilt design near edges and spine along with gilt lettering. Marbled endpages. The tree calf leather is well worn near the top and bottom edges of both covers. Gold page edges. Binding is tight. Illustrated with six black and white etchings, including one on the frontispiece. This book is free from writing or marginalia within, and shows minimal foxing/staining. 47 pp. More images available upon request. Full refund if not satisfied.
