Edited by Colin Thomas. In 1856 the author accompanied by a servant embarked on an eighteen month journey from St Petersburg to the very heart of Asia. He collected geological and botanical specimens and took topographical and meteorological observations and other primary data on environments and ethnographic information on nomads. His journal set out a strategy for imperial expansion which was followed and accomplished in the next thirty years. 269 pages with 15 colour plates and 4 maps. Book in near fine condition. Dust jacket in very good condition with some minor wear and rubbing to back.
