Paris: Ernest Flammarion, 1909. [6], 242, [4] pp. 18 x 14 cm. Red half-leather with marbled boards; gilt tooling and titling to spine; top edge gilt. Bound expressly for Raphael Weill Company in San Francisco by (Jean?) Terquem of Paris. Very light rubbing to head of spine; very light wear to tips and bottoms of boards. Light age-toning to text. All tissue map overlays present with light toning to tissue. Interior is clean and unmarked. Binding quite firm. A beautiful copy, bound specifically for the French-style department store, Raphael Weill & Co. Raphael Weill, a Jewish French immigrant, became a partner at the Davidson Dry Goods Store in the late 1850s. In 1885, the store became Raphael Weill & Company, and the store became known as The White House until it closed in 1966.. Hard Cover. Near Fine.
