About This Item

Frontispiece. 564 pp Intricate Victorian romantic novel by Marie Corelli (1855-1924), the most widely read author of her time, and favorite novelist of the Queen herself, whose personal life was the subject of frequent controversy. The book begins with a special author's note dispelling her detractors. Despite the attacks, Corelli's books often broke sales records, and she was the only author invited to the coronation of Edward VI, and counted among her friends Mark Twain, Ouida, Sarah Bernhardt, George Meredith, Algernon Swinburne, the Empress Frederick of Germany, and many others. Tennyson wrote her praises for "Adrath" (1889), and Henry Miller has noted, "If there is ever a revival of her work, be assured that she will be as much reviled and condemned now as she was in her lifetime..(We carry a wide selection of titles in The Arts, Theology, History, Politics, Social and Physical Sciences. academic and scholarly books and Modern First Editions ,and all types of Academic Literature.).
