This superb set depicts a collection of 17,000 carefully documented drawings and photographs executed by artists and scholars working under the Works Project Administration. The author provides a comprehensive history of American furniture, ceramics, glass, silver, pewter, textiles, household goods, antiques and collectibles, and more. It illustrated the vast and wonderful world of art, industry, trade, decoration and ornament in the United States in its first two hundred years. Very heavy volumes . A historically important set. Virtually no wear to boards -- covers are clean and crisp with bright gilt lettering and decoration. No interior markings. Hinge of volume 1 strengthened internally; light fade marks to both volumes.
