About This Item

London: J. Nourse, 1780. Second edition, 8vo, pp. viii, 527, [1]; 13 folding plates of diagrams; recent calf-backed marbled boards, new endpapers; contemporary ownership signatures of Wm. Adam and Wm. Pease on title page; a nice copy. First published in 1764, Emerson's mathematical text for young students was "found too advanced for their alleged purpose, the explanations and demonstrations being far too concise to be readily understood by the young" (DNB VI, p. 769).
