FIRST EDITION 1755. 8vo, approximately 200 x 120 mm, 8 x 4¾ inches, 7 folding engraved plates, first plate pasted on to outer margin as instructed in list of plates, pages: viii, [8], index and Errata, 1-392, bound in modern half calf over marbled boards, gilt lettered label, gilt author and date and gilt decoration between raised bands to spine, new cream endpapers. Pale browning to edges of title page and final page, tips of outer corners have tiny repairs, and 1 small repair to upper margin, repair on blank side of inner margin of 1 folding plate, not affecting image, pale staining to a few outer margins, pale age-browning throughout and some light corner creasing due to page turning, otherwise a very good copy. The late Mr. Thomas Hitt, was formerly gardener to Lord Robert Manners at Bloxholm, in Lincolnshire, and to Lord Robert Bertie, at Chislehurst in Kent.
