About This Item
Edinburgh/ London: Manners & Miller, A.Constable/ William Miller, John Murray, 1810. Not Given (1st-1745) . Leather. Good-VG. 10 cms x 17 Cms. xxiv+263; endpapers & blank fly leaves heavily browned and foxed but main text unaffected, being clean, tight & unmarked, end-gutters sl.open (more so at front) but firm; leather covers clean but gilt dec. panelled sp.rubbed (though gilt-on-black label good), joints rubbed, more so fr.joint which is incipiently cracking, extremeties rubbed but not seriously, and gilt edge-dentelles mostly good, sm. (5 mm) loss of leather bottom fr.edge. This perennial best-seller is a bibliographic nightmare being re-issued, especially in the U.S.A. into mid-19th century. Essential for social historians interested in the popular self-improvement genre, and also I think for historians of Psychology studying the cultural background of the early 'proto-Psychology' phase pre-1850.
