About This Item
London: G. Nicol and J. Johnson, 1788. 2nd Edition . Hardcover. Very Good/No Jacket. G. Nicol and J. Johnson, London, 1788. Second Edition. 4to, viii + pp398 + 7 copperplate engravings and their explanations plus 12 pages of index to rear. Hardcover, no dustjacket. Presumed original binding in full calf leather. The spine has a few cracks, the title label is missing, and gilt decoration has faded. The leather has split down both sides of spine and is separating from boards in places, however the binding is remarkably tight and sound for age. Inside previous contemporary owner's signature on title page. The pages of text are in remarkably clean condition, however there is a little foxing throughout plates and description which appears to be old water damage. An excellent scarce early copy of this ground-breaking work. Photographs available on request.
