Top edge lightly toned; one light mark to fore edge; one very minor stain at the bottom of the upper board; jacket lightly creased along edges. White's fourth novel and the winner of the Australian Literature Society's Gold Medal. The first UK printing published in April 1956 some eight months after the American printing. According to Hubber/Smith the British publication was a photolithographic reprint of the American edition.
