Relating the adventurous life of Cornishman Captain Edward Primrose Tregurtha, beginning with Royal Navy service in the Napoleonic Wars at the age of nine. This was followed by ten years on East Indiamen and country ships on the China run and in the East, South Seas whaling as captain of the Caroline out of Hobart Town in the 1830s, and employment as inter-colonial trader and shipmaster based at George Town and Launceston, Van Diemen's Land.
