About This Item

Paris: L'Edition d'Art, H. Piazza, 1927. First trade edition (following 500 numbered copies were printed on papier Japon). 12mo (19 cm). xi, (1), 161, (1) pp. Plate, tailpiece vignettes. Inscribed by the author to the wife of the English translator of another of his books (The Passion of Yang Kwe-Fei by Covici, Friede, 1928) Henry Bedford-Jones in 1927 (in part "En homage pour Madame Bedford-Jones pour Henry Bedford-Jones"). Soulie de Morant (1878-1955), French scholar and diplomat, introduced acupuncture to the west and translated Chinese and Japanese literature; Bedford-Jones (1887-1949), an American novelist and contributor to pulps, produced almost all of his large output during the period, 1914-1928. Original brown decorated wrappers (spine worn) bound into green cloth, the upper boards with a color illustrated Japanese paper only, the boards tied through three punch-holes at the spine. Very good.
