first edition, octavo, 164, 72, [1] pp., ex-library, hand and blindstamps, and ink markings on title page, bound in early 20th century plain cloth, red and black leather spine labels, shelf number at base of spine, some soiling to covers, light foxing to text else a good copy.
Lt. Joel Abbot accused Capt. Isaac Hull of fraud against the U.S. government. Capt. David Porter investigated the charges, and determined that Hull was innocent. Porter in April 1822 then charged Abbot with libel. Abbot was found guilty and removed from service for two years, but returned to service and in his subsequent career rose to the rank of captain.
