"This book continues and expands the scope of the author's Caste and the Economic Frontier (1957), which described economic and political changes in an Oriya village, Bisipara, during the past hundred years. The present study, covering a longer period of time, discusses the social organization of a famous Indian tribal people, the Konds of Orissa, in the midst of whose territory the Oriya village of Bisipara lies." .
