Very Good in Very Good- DJ: The top edge of the front panel of the Book has suffered a small abrasion (1/2” x 1/16”) which exposes the underlying board; a superficial nudge to the bottom edge of the front panel; the binding leans slightly but remains secure; the text is clean. A carefully-used copy, structurally sound and tightly bound, showing mild wear and minor, unobtrusive imperfections. The DJ shows a couple of tiny closed tears along the top edge; an abrasion to the upper corner of the front panel near upper corner where a price tag has been removed; mild to moderate rubbing to the panels and faint consequent soiling; the price has been clipped; mylar-protected. Not unattractive. NOT a Remainder, Book-Club, or Ex-Library. 8vo. (8.25 x 5.75 x 1.25 inches). Translated by Harold B. Segel, who has also provided a lengthy Introduction. Language: English. Weight: 17.8 ounces. Dark red cloth over boards with gilt titles at the backstrip. Hardcover with DJ. Sukhovo-Kobylin's Trilogy - Krechinshy's Wedding, The Caseand The Death of Tarelkin represent the sole literary legacy of their aristocratic author whose involvement in a sensational murder case became one of the great scandals of mid-19th century Russian society. Out of the drama of his own life, Sukhovo-Kobylin fashioned a trilogy of plays remarkable for the acidity of their satire against the tsarist bureaucracy and police. It is not only for their pungent satire that the plays have continued to attract attention ever since. They are, above all, splendidly theatrical and encompass not one but several different traditions of theatre from the "well-made play" of Scribe to the absurd comedy of Gogol. "As for sheer stagecraft, " writes Price D. S. Mirsky in his A History of Russian Literature, "they have no rivals in Russian literary drama". ; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; xlix, 264 pages .
