Appears lightly read, in original golden-tan cloth with titles in gilt, illustrated endpapers, soiling, scuffs to covers, rubbing to edges, coloring from previous owner on title page / pages though out, hinge starting, chips, dogears, creases to pages through out typical of this title else pages are generally clean, bright and binding tight. A scarce book in any condition. Neat previous owner's gift inscription on title page. This is the author / illustrator's very first children book, one of the most famous female illustrators at the 19th / 20th turn of the century, Blanche McManus illustrated books for Rudyard Kipling, Lewis Carroll, Alfred Lord Tennyson and many other authors of the day. Classic fantasy tale from a major turn of the century illustrator, rare collectible. 4to. 133 pgs + [4 pgs. index].
