About This Item

Printed for Alex. Hogg at the King’s-Arms, London, [1791]. Later Edition. Hardcover (Quarter Leather). Very Good Condition. Illustrator: Morris, Pollard, Cary, Grainger, Roberts, Wooding, Thornton, Walker and Goldar. Book A late printing with notes by Samuel Adams and nine copperplate illustrations (frontispiece, seven full page and one folded). Collation: viii, 338, plates ; (8vo). Publication date is from UK holdings in the COPAC union catalogue which shows two listings with a total of 15 holding libraries. There are changes in the printed information in what appears to be a contemporary hand. An interesting note for those interested in the economics of 18th century printing: The advertisement for the companion printing of "Pilgrim's Progress" at the bottom of the title page has the "Eight Sixpenny Numbers" changed to 10. The note about that edition at the bottom of the first page of signature a 2 has been changed from 16 to 10 copper-plates and the pricing has been changed from 4 to 5 s. in Numbers and from 5s. to 6 s. 6 for a bound volume. Size: Octavo (8-9"). 338 pages. Item Type: Book. Text block is tight and bright; paper is browned from age but with minimal foxing. A few pages have penciled lines to call attention to sections of the text. New end pages were added in the rebinding. Later (c. 1791?) quarter binding with five compartment leather spine. Title in bright gilt on black morocco title label. The leather has broken off in the bottom half of the bottom compartment. The catch word NEW appears at the bottom of page 338 for the advertisement page, but this copy is missing the five pages of advertisements at the end and the 32 page "A new and authentic account" of Bunyan's life and dead. Illustrator: Morris, Pollard, Cary, Grainger, Roberts, Wooding, Thornton, Walker and Goldar. Quantity Available: 1. Category: Antiquarian & Rare; Britain/UK; 18th century; Religion & Theology. Main Picture: Bunyan (1791) A True Relation of the Holy War - Front cover and spine with inset of the title page. Picture 2: Bunyan (1791) A True Relation of the Holy War - Rear cover and page edges. Picture 3: Bunyan (1791) A True Relation of the Holy War - Frontispiece and title page with change made at the bottom of the title page.
