Paris: self-published, 1935. Octavo (19.5 × 14 cm). Original decorative wrappers; 62, [2] pp. Includes maps. Partially unopened and uncut. Light foxing to wrappers and along the fore edge, else very good. A WWI testimony, this pamphlet describes the devastating "victory" in the battle for Trysten' of the Keksgol'm battalion during the unsuccessful offensive of the Western Front in 1916. The author, military personality, writer, and historian Boris Adamovich (1870-1936), was a commander of the battalion during the first year of WWI, 1914-1915, and was intimately familiar with the affairs of the battalion. In 1910 he published his first historical work on the battalion titled "Sbornik voenno-istoricheskikh materialov leib-gvardii Keksgol'mskogo Imperatorskogo Avstriiskogo polka" (The collection of military historical materials of the of the Keksgol'm Imperial Austrian battalion). In this text, published for the 225th anniversary of the battalion in 1935, the author cites losses of 70% of the battalion and 80% of the battalion leadership in the ill-fated Trysten' battle (part of the Stokhodskoy operation), blaming the losses on irresponsible management of the battalion by the higher military leadership. Adamovich died in emigration in Sarajevo the year after the book's publication. Savine 002630. Scarce in the trade.
