He was born on September 4, 1890, in Cornwall, England. Bolitho began his career as a journalist and worked for several newspapers in London before becoming a war correspondent during World War I. After the war, he turned to writing biographies and travel books, including "The Glory That Was Greece" (1921) and "Journeys Ended" (1928). Bolitho was known for his engaging writing style and his ability to bring history and travel destinations to life for his readers. He was also a prolific writer of short stories and articles, many of which were published in magazines such as The Saturday Evening Post and The New Yorker.
