New York: Harper & Brothers, 1948. Lay, Bernie & Bartlett, Sy. TWELVE O'CLOCK HIGH. New York: Harper & Brothers, (1948). FIRST EDITION, with the correct code "C-X" on the verso of the title page. A Good copy only (spine gilt dulled, chips and wear to the original cloth in a Very Good dust jacket (red-colored spine evenly faded with a touch of edge-wear) which retains some decent eye appeal. The book itself is a rarity but this copy has quite the association. It is INSCRIBED by both authors along with actor Cornel Wilde: "To Don/ Cornel Wilde/ Sy Bartlett/ Bernie Lay Jr." The fact that Cornel Wilde lost the main role in the movie adaptation of TWELVE O'CLOCK HIGH to Gregory Peck makes this a bit of an oddity. Perhaps it was presented to "Don" before Wilde lost the part in the film. Further research might prove this point. But signed first editions of TWELVE O'CLOCK HIGH are virtually unknown to commerce and perhaps that's all the advanced collector needs to know. Twelve O'Clock High was adapted into the 1949 20th Century Fox feature film which brilliantly captured the danger and drama of a World War II Air Force Squadron based in England during the second World War, with Gregory Peck starring as the commander assigned to solve their problems and whip them into shape for battle. Comes with a signed 4" by 6" signed photo of Cornel Wilde which has been laid in.. Inscribed By Author. First Edition. Hard Cover. Good/Very Good.
