Author's name hand-written on title page. 538pp., index, photos on coated stock, full page portraits, map from the 1858 Texas Almanac, other illus., new black buckram with gilt spine titles. Previous owner's name. Binding fine interior very good, clean and tight with gold top edge and other edges marbled. Lacking volume I.

Volume II of II. Contains: Bexar County, San Antonio, the City and Its Citizens, City of Laredo, Southwest Texas During the Last Quarter Century, El Copano, Dimmit County, Atascosa County, Bandera County, Bee, Caldwell, Calhoun, Colorado, Comal, Dewitt, Duval, Fayette, Frio, Goliad, Guadalupe, Jackson, Karnes, Kinney, Maverick, McMullen,, Medina, Starr, uvalde, Val Verde, Webb, Wharton, Wilson and Zavala, Eagle Pass, Port Lavaca and Vicinity, Garza Family, Border Troubles,County, Nueces County, Rockport, Colorado Couty, LaSalle County, Cotullas, Gonzales, Karnes County, Felix R. Dahtrey and other Confederate veterans, etc. A virtual though somewhat unorganized, encyclopedia of the largest area of the state and its communities, earliest settlements and family genealogies. In spite of its "twentieth century" title, it is a 19th century history. Paddock served as a captain in the Confederate Army and studied law in Mississippi before moving to Fort Worth in 1872. His interests included banking, investment securities, railroads, and real estate. He was publisher of the Fort Worth Democrat, later editor of the Fort Worth Gazette, founder and president of the Fort Worth and Rio Grande Railway, mayor of Fort Worth (1892-1900), among other pursuits.
