About This Item
New York & Chicago: A.L. Burt Company, 1932. One of the most famous titles from an era when we had "gangsters" rather than "gangstas." Made into a film starring Spencer Tracy. Lewis Lawes (1883-1947) was in charge of Sing Sing for two decades and, although considered a reformer, he supervised over 300 executions. This is a Very Good copy of the A.L. Burt reprint, published in the same year as the First Edition. Burt reprints are considered desirable by collectors since they closely approximate their more expensive forebears. Blue cloth binding with black lettering. Clean text; 412 pages. The striking dustjacket is complete, but has some edgewear and a 1/2" chip across the head of the spine. In an archival plastic protector. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. Reprint.. Hard Cover. Very Good/Very Good Minus.
