Assumed 1891 publishing date and first edition. No date in given on publishing page. However, inscription on second page of book (there are 10 un-numbered pages some with engravings, at the beginning of the book) is dated 1891. The inscriptions is from a women to her niece. The book was a Christmas present. The book contains eight stories for children by different authors. It includes 50 black and white and eight color illustrations. Except for some yellowiing at the edges of the pages with color engravings, the inscription on the second page and a large tear on the next to last end-paper, the pages are in excellent condition with only the slightest spotting on a few of the pages. The cover is in fair condition, with a large diagonal bend near the bottom of the front cover and wear markds and chipping at the edges.
