London: Smith, Elder and Co, 1859. First edition. Hardcover. g+ to vg. Octavo. (x) (1) 271pp. + 24 pages of publishers ads at rear. Maroon pebbled cloth boards with blind-stamped design on covers. Gilt lettering on spine. Includes two plates of steel plate engravings, each protected by tissue guards. As the title states, the work is the publication of a series of lectures on art criticism given by Ruskin, being a general introduction to his views on art & architecture, and their influence. Binding with some rubbing to head of spine, with light rubbing and bumping along some edges and to corners. Spine lightly sunned. Interior with starting at the gutter of interior front cover, Ex-libris of previous owner having been removed. Some light water staining and offsetting at front free endpapers and title page. Binding in good+, interior in very good condition overall.
