Both volumes illustrated with substantial sections of black-and-white photographs. Notes. Indexes. The first volume bound in black half-cloth over cream paper-covered boards, gilt lettering on spine; the second bound in black half-cloth over blue paper-covered boards, gilt lettering on spine. Both with a photo-illustrated dust jacket, prices intact on front flaps, the second volume dust jacket with a slight snag at head of spine. The first volume is a second printing; the second volume is a first printing. Rampersad's authoritative biography of the Harlem Renaissance figure who was so much more than just that: poet, novelist, playwright, social activist and a lifelong force for the betterment of his people. Dust jackets are now protected in removable, clear archival sleeves.
