About This Item
Washington, D.C., 1948. One page, on White House stationery dated May 13, 1948, to Bishop G. Bromley Oxnam, Bishop of the Methodist Church in New York City. A highly interesting letter about religion and politics. President Truman thanks Bishop Oxnam, an active leader of the Federal Council of Churches and Americans for Democratic Action. for sending him a copy of his recent speech to the Conference of Methodist Bishops in Boston. He writes in part: "There is a great need in these troublous days for the leadership of the church which you suggest. We must not only proclaim the Christian ideal. We must live it." In fine condition..
