About This Item
On Headquarters Army Ground Forces stationery, Stilwell replies to a young correspondent on 30 January, 1945, “I had a note from your father the other day, and am sending you a picture and a shoulder patch...the insignia is the old shoulder patch worn by members of the China-Burma-India Theater. The twelve-pointed star on the left represents the Chinese Kuomintang while the one on the right is the Star of India. The red and white shield is for the good old U.S.A.” The 9 1/2 x 7 1/2” photograph depicts Stilwell leaning on sandbags in camp, probably on campaign in Asia, and he has signed it “Joseph W. Stilwell, Gen., U.S.A.” Small pieces of mounting tape on the verso; excellent condition.
