About This Item

n.p.: Unpublished, 1971. The letter on Artie Shaw's personal stationery is dated May 17, 1971 and reads: "Dear Tony: I could have understood Yes, No, or even Maybe--but I cannot understand one broken appointment, one broken lunch date, and one unbroken silence ever since. Don't you think a phone call is in order? I do. What can you lose? Sincerely Artie Shaw." It is boldly signed "Artie" in black ink. Shaw was a world-renowned jazz clarinetist and band leader. Galli was a news correspondent, who later worked in advertising and was largely responsible for the AT&T slogan "Reach out and touch someone." Shaw's signature is bold and bright; the letter is generally clean and bright, but there is one 1" closed tear that does not intrude upon the text. There is a hint of faint soiling and minor wrinkling.. SIGNED. First Edition. Paper. Very Good.. 10 1/4" X 7 1/8". Manuscript.
