Small octavo, 172 pages including 4 engravings, cloth boards, moderate wear and staining.

A rather scurrilous anti-Roma childrens' book consisting of uncredited passages from various writers, some sympathetic to the Roma, but mostly not Sources include George Borrow, Sir Walter Scott, Chambers's Miscellany, et al. The editor, Daniel Parish Kidder (1851-1899), served as corresponding secretary and editor of Sunday School publications and tracts at the Methodist Sunday School Union from 1844 to 1856. It is estimated that Kidder was involved in editing over 800 Sunday School Union publications, many of which are rife with the sort of stereotyping evident throughout this work. The frontispiece is particularly telling.

WorldCat locates only 10 copies of this title under four different imprints, 1850-52. Presumably there were thousands printed.
