About This Item
Matthiessen's chronicle of the 1961 Harvard-Peabody Expedition to New Guinea. The first issue is scarce, after the printers inserted a section of photographs following page 160, rather than at the end of the text on page 256 as Matthiessen intended. This is a first edition, second issue with the photographs properly placed. Fine in near fine fragile dw with scattered edge wear and some flaking to the spine folds. SIGNED by Matthiessen on the title page.
