Small quarto; pp; 64; beautifully illustrated in color by the author, engraved and printed by Edmund Evans; quarter green cloth and paper covered pictorial boards, green coated endpapers; a very good copy with slight rubbing on the right corners, top and bottom; penciled name of previous owner on front paste-down without a date; else near fine;. Most probably an early second edition; Children on cover illustrated in white and pink; Half title page has an illustration of a house, verso of title page has bowl of flowers illustration; Verso of title page without imprint but with an illustration of a small boy; no "End of Contents" on page 14; printer's ornaments present on either side of "Edmund Evans" on title page; Complex illustrations present on p21 and p35, but not on p63, that has been replaced by the "kidnapping old man" illustration; The first book written and illustrated by Kate Greenaway.
