Covers worn, toned, corners bumped. The true first of Auster's first book, not since reprinted, with the correction in the author's hand: "/into" for "to" in "speak in you," an apt echo of Celan in a poem (Ice--means nothing) clearly indebted to the poet, presumably encountered in Neugroschel's marvelous collection, Speech-Grille (1971),

About very good, with a penciled correction, presumably in Auster's hand, to the eleventh poem. Signed and inscribed by Auster to the half-title: "For John- In friendship. Paul." The third publication of Living Hand, the imprint Auster ran with his then-wife Lydia Davis.

This copy also has the single pencilled correction which seems to have been made by the author whenever inscribing this book.Covers faded at the spine and edges. Very good indeed.
