About This Item

Chicago, Illinois: Consolidated Book Publishers, 1957. Reprint . Hardcover. Near Fine/Good+. Touting itself as "the fundamental cook book for the American housewife today,'' this is a collection of "thousands" of recipes gathered from across the US "from New England to the Golden Gate, from the romantic land of the Creole to the boundaries of the North." In 752 pages with Index, with 200+ photographic images in both monochrome & full color throughout the text. Orig. published in 1939, this is a 1957 edition, in the famous "Prudence Penny" binding consisting of blue cloth-covered boards stamped with a deep red design & lettering to front & spine. Penny was the "Home Economics Expert" at the San Francisco Examiner newspaper, & the binding was patented in her name. Housed in its hard-to-find protective DJ, this hardcover 8vo is in Near Fine condition: remarkably clean & bright, binding strong & straight, pages creamy white with modest but even tanning. Very minor rubbing to extremities. The unclipped DJ, decorated with stereotypical images of women representing different races, ethnicities, & cultures across a map of the US, is Good+: colorful & bright, but with chipping--large one to heel of spine & bottom of front cover--& general edgewear; beautifully protected in new clear mylar cover that has a tiny hole on the back side. Our photos depict the Exact book you will receive, never "stock" images of books we don't actually have! Same Day Shipping on all orders received by 2 pm Weekdays (Pacific); later orders, Weekends & holidays ship very next business day.
