About This Item
Leipzig, Paris, Bologna: The Albatross, Modern Continental Library Volume 389, (1938). "Copyright Edition, not to be introduced into the British Empire or the U.S.A." Duodecimo (7.25" x 4.5"), 252, & [4] pages. Publisher's printed & decorated stiff paper wraps in matching dust jacket.
Slight edge wear, lightly toned, previous owner's name & date in ink at the half title page, otherwise very good in like dust jacket, lightly rubbed, briefly browned at the spine, with a couple of nicks, short tears, & tiny losses at the folds & edges.
Quite possibly the first European edition. Uncommon in general, particularly in dust jacket.
"William Faulkner holds such a place in modern American literature that a new book by him is bound to awaken the interest of the discerning reader. The quality of his work depends largely on his power of evoking atmosphere, and this series of episodes of the American Civil War is all the more vivid in that Faulkner is himself descended from an old Southern family in which the memories of that time are still alive to-day ..." ~Excerpted from the dust jacket.
