Illustrated throughout with 43 full page chromolithographic plates with tissue guards present portraying the officers, marines and bluejackets, the type of wooden ships, the magnificent ironclads while depicting the wars of 1812, Black-Hawk and Seminole Wars, Mexican War, the later Indian Wars, War between the States, Revolutionary War and a few others. It also notes the military necessities, training and education, war employment and the organization and administration of the army and Navy. A very handsome copy bound in blue pictorial morocco lettered and decorated in gilt framing the two sides: the Army and Navy in color over beveled boards, spine lettering gilt, an unidentified owner's bookplate. A beautiful production.
